Emily knew she didn't have much time before she would have to start meeting the men who had come to court her. She reflected on how she had gotten to this place.
She was in a special kingdom called Care-A-Lion that was ruled by a mysterious man everyone called the Fleissmeister. He must like her; she hadn't yet asked for a single thing he wasn't willing to give her.
Care-A-Lion was a haven for animals, all of whom were as gentle and playful as young children. Emily had a feeling that the Fleissmeister exercised some control over them, but she didn't have it quite figured out yet. There were those cute mice that were scurrying everywhere. Normally she'd be leaping from chair to chair in fear, but these little guys were quite charming and seemed to be looking out for her welfare. There were even sweet songbirds in vibrant colors who came and went as they pleased.
To Emily's delight, the closets in this house were huge and bulging with all manner of custom-designed and crafted clothing. Most special of all were the shoes, which bore an odd label--CryStained LowButtons. She must remember to ask Chris what that meant. In the meantime, though, she marveled that they were all made of glass in such beautiful jeweled colors that they sparkled even in the candlelight.
So here she was, standing on the edge of the freshly hosed down patio with light reflections dancing in the droplets and little pools of water. She felt that the most exciting time of her life was about to begin. With everything so well planned, she didn't imagine that anything could possibly go wrong.
