She had taken only a small sip of the champagne, but already she felt a little light-headed. Richard had come out to the patio with her, as he had said he wanted to get to know her better.
Emily saw a flutter of wings out of the corner of her eye. She reached up with her left hand and a bright red cardinal immediately flew to her, perching on her extended index finger. Richard seemed awestruck.
"How do you get a bird to land on your finger?" he asked.
Emily flashed her dimples at him. "ABC is owned by Disney, you know. Disney can get animals to do all kinds of things." With that, the cardinal flew away only to be replaced by a bluejay. The jay began to sing. Richard concentrated closely. " 'Cara Mia'," he whispered. "Jay and the Americans." He looked at the jay again just as it finished its song and flew away. Richard shook his head. "Nah," he muttered.
"Say," Richard began, looking at Emily, "those white raisins you put out are really something! I had lots of them and may have some more!"
Emily lowered her lashes, then looked up at him. "I can't tell you how happy I am to hear you say that," she purred. "I want a man who is here for the white raisins."
